Bunnies
The Bunny Program is the first level of Nordic Canada’s Active Start stage of development for children 3-5 years of age. The objective of the program is to introduce cross-country skiing and the healthy lifestyle associated with it through organized activity and active play.
Program will start mid-November and run on Saturday mornings and continue until the middle of March, weather permitting. 1 session/week at the Stoney Creek Centre located at 5320-39 Avenue.
Bunny Rabbit
The Camrose Ski Club has designated a “Bunny Rabbit” group as a bridge between the Bunny group and the Jackrabbit group for children aged 5-7. Program objectives and goals are similar to the Bunny Program, but with more specific technique instruction and activities designed for kids who are able to ski a little farther.
Program will start mid-November and run on Thursday nights from 5:00 – 6:00 pm and continue until the middle of March, weather permitting. 1 session/week at the Stoney Creek Centre located at 5320-39 Avenue.

The Jackrabbit Program is designed around Nordic Canada’s “FUNdamentals” stage of development (children 7-9 years of age), this is the second level of the skill development program.
The objective is for children to learn basic cross-country ski skills (both classic and skating) and to instill a lifelong interest in the sport, thereby enhancing their quality of life and health.
Program will start mid-November and run on Thursday nights from 5:00 – 6:00 pm and continue until the middle of March, weather permitting. 1 session/week at the Stoney Creek Centre located at 5320-39 Avenue.
Track Attack
The Track Attack program is designed to emphasis on refining all Nordic Canada’s FUNdamental movements and basic cross country running and skiing skills, as well as establishing an aerobic base for further development of speed and strength.
Track Attack skiers have the opportunity to have FUN out in nature with friends and family all while improving proper cross country running, classic and skate skiing techniques through drills and games on skis.
The Track Attack age group has the opportunity to participate in the Alberta Youth Championships in Bragg Creek and other regional loppets and if interested Alberta Cups races.
Track Attack expectations – Participants must have their own wax-able skis, boots and poles for both classic and skate technique. Must have basic waxing skills or willingness to learn.
The Track Attack program will start in mid to late October with one session a week on Thursday nights and once the snow comes they will move to at least 2 sessions a week, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:45-6:00 pm.
Adventure Group
The Adventure Group is designed for athletes aged 12 and older that just want to go for a ski, or adventure, without the pressure of having to train for races. There will still be an emphasis on FUNdamental technique for both classic and skate skiing.
The Adventure Group will start once the snow is on the ground and participants will have at least 2 sessions a week, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:45-6:00 pm.
A minimum of at least 5 registrants is needed for this group to run.
Junior Racers
This program is a high-energy program taking into consideration the social and emotional development of the age group – lots of team building, group interaction and social events are emphasized. It’s tailored to meet the needs of athletes going through the peak growth period and to allow athletes to perform to their potential. Emphasis on refining cross country running and skiing skills and physical development including “engine building” of aerobic capacity.
Junior racers have the opportunity to have professional coaching and access to a training program and education sessions on nutrition and hydration, sports medicine and injury prevention, core strengthening, aerobic conditioning, flexibility and the life of an athlete.
Junior Racers should be able to classic and skate ski for 30 minutes or 5km non-stop. It’s expected that Junior Racers attend 80% of all dryland training, skating and classic sessions. Junior Racers are also encouraged to attend running and skiing events throughout the season (Alberta Youth Championships, Alberta Cups, Loppets).
The Junior Racers program starts the middle of September to the middle of March with 2-3 sessions/week.
